With the Covid pandemic still around, the fear of being infected with the virus still lingers in people’s mind. But with the vaccine finally being distributed to everyone, the hope of getting back to normal life is now entirely possible. But still, minimum health protocols are being observed and followed, like facemask and social distancing. The government can never be too careful, and preventing another outbreak is a priority. With that in mind, you need to be in your top shape during this time, and for you to do that, a well- balanced diet and proper exercise is a must. So, have you been eating right?
Did you do some exercise even when you were stuck in your home? If no, then you probably have gained some extra pounds during this pandemic. It sometimes can be difficult for someone to think about all these things when the virus’s fear is always on your head. If you are having problems staying in shape, you should consider buying food supplements and adding them to your diet. BCAA supplements are one of these supplements you can add to your diet, especially if you want to look fit and buff.
What is BCAA?
In the human body, the thousands of different proteins that make up our body are made up of twenty different amino acids. Nine of them are considered to be essential amino acids. It means that the body cannot make them and have to be acquired through diet. Three of the nine essential amino acids are the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They are called branched – chained because of their chemical structure. They can be found in eggs, meat or any protein-rich food. They are also found in dietary supplements, the popular one being BCAA powder.
BCAA helps increase muscle growth
When you go to the gym to do some lifting or in your home to do some exercise, you want to see some result by looking at your muscle growth. BCAA helps you achieve this. Leucine, one of the BCAAs, innervates protein synthesis by activating a particular pathway in your body. Muscle growth is therefore increased because of this process. A study done with BCAA showed that individuals had a 22% chance of muscle growth increase than those that took a placebo drink after a resistance workout.
BCAA decreases muscle soreness
It is common for someone to have muscle soreness after doing an intense workout. You can even experience it for a whole day or two if you are relatively new to doing an intense workout. This soreness is called delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). It can develop between 12 to 24 hours after exercising. It is not clearly understood why DOMS occurs, but some research has shown that BCAA decreases muscle damage, which means BCAA may reduce the severity of muscle soreness. Muscle soreness can be a hassle, and if there is a way to reduce it, you should probably take it.
The pandemic may still be happening but do not make that an excuse to not take care of yourself. The vaccine is already here, so you need to be in your best shape after this is all over. So as much as possible, stay healthy.
